"Pork-a-razzi" Photo Contest
Calling all shutterbugs!
In celebration of National Tourism Month (May) Smithfield & Isle of Wight County Convention & Visitors Bureau is sponsoring a contest to find the photo that best captures that iconic image expressing the unique and charming aspects of our area. The contest is open to all - amateur and professional photographers of all ages, both visitors to our area and residents.
The theme is simple – the “quintessential image” that captures the general character of our destination and features any activity, attraction or event within the town and/or county.
The winning image will be featured (with photo credit) on the cover of the 2010-2011 Visitor’s Guide - 10,000 of which are distributed yearly. The Guide will be available digitally as well on the Tourism website and printed as a special insert into the 2010 May/June issue of Hampton Roads Magazine, distributed to over 40,000 homes and sold throughout the Tidewater area. All entries will be featured on this website and may be used in future marketing projects.
Entries will be displayed at the Arts Center @ 319 during the months of May & June
and featured on the Tourism Website.

Contest Details
- The image must have been taken in Smithfield and/or Isle of Wight County, Virginia.
- The image must feature Smithfield and/or Isle of Wight County as the subject matter.
- The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers of any age.
- The photo can be digitally manipulated, “photo-shopped,” or cropped as the photographer chooses.
- The photo cannot be a composite image featuring more than one photo.
- The photos must be original & not have previously been published in any promotional material, website, etc.
- Each photographer can enter up to 5 images.
- Images can be color or black and white.
- Entries must be submitted digitally via email or burned on a CD. Prints are not necessary.
- Digital entries must be high resolution files in the JPG (jpeg) format and should be no smaller than 500 kb (kilobytes) in size. Image size should be no smaller than 10” on their longest edge.
- Name the digital file as follows: Photo’s Title by Photographer’s Name (example: Morning in Smithfield by John Doe)
- Email address: isleofwightphotocontest@gmail.com
- Address for CD: 319 Main Street, Smithfield, VA 23430…please mark “PHOTO CONTEST” on package. Arrangements can be made for the CD to be picked up at the Visitors Center after the contest is finished.
- Entries must include a signed entry form which can be mailed separately if necessary.
- If the image contains distinguishable faces of people, the entry must include a photo release signed by each person.
- All photos submitted as entries to the contest become the property of the Smithfield & Isle of Wight CVB. Entrants forfeit ownership and all rights thereof to the CVB. Entrants grant permission to the CVB and the CVB reserves the right to use the entries and publish the image in not-for-profit promotion. The CVB reserves the right to refuse to display any image on its website for aesthetic or other reasons.
- Entry indicates participants agree to be bound by the terms of the photo contest.
- The winner will be announced at the Visitors Center during the May 14th SmARTs event. Entries will be displayed at the Visitor/Arts Center @ 319 during the months of May and June.
- Entry deadline: via email or postmark is April 10, 2010 by 4:30 p.m.

and a representative from the Isle of Wight Arts League
Judging Criteria:
Entries will be judged on overall photographic and artistic quality, promotional appeal, reproducibility and best expression of the theme.
Prize:
The winning photo will be printed on the cover of the 2010-2011 Smithfield & Isle of Wight Visitor’s Guide (with photo credit), 50,000 in print and digitally available on the Tourism website. All entries will be featured on the Tourism Website.
The winner will be announced at the Visitors Center during the May 14th SmARTs event.
Entries will be displayed at the Visitor/Arts Center @ 319 in May and June and on the tourism website.
